Golden Compass...
a show..not to be missed....but if u missed it accidentally also no need heartache..
haha....ok....wat i meant was...
it's really quite a good show...but there's still something lacking still..
dunno how to express it...
but i really love the show with it's subtle yet obvious portrayal of the Church..
hmm not sure whether this will be considered spoilers but i think i better cut it..just in case..
and also im not sure if i will offend any christians out there...
so...read on if u really want to...
To me i feel that
I especially liked the part where nicole kidman entered the show in that golden dress with her golden monkey as her soul....it just made her...gorgeous....
even though she was Evil....she made Evil beautiful...
Im also most impressed with the show's ability to portray the powerful clerical “Magisterium” which governs this world, to the Church..
trying to control people from the "Dust"...which refers to "pollution" of the minds by other thinkings...
It is quoted that it is dangerous to be able to think freely...and those who do not follow the Magisterium will not be forced or badly treated but instead, be "adviced" nicely to follow the rules...
Which to me...really really strikes a chord as being the Church...
or rather...the impression churches have been giving me so far..
adviced nicely? haha...more likely to force you a thinking that you have sinned...and to repent.. =x
The girl in the show is therefore gifted with this golden compass which tells her the truth of anything.
of cos...the Magisterium must get rid of her and the golden compass to prevent people from believing in anything else
other than them....
and of cos...it's just like the Church throughout the years...
quashing out all other thoughts or thinkings that might threaten their existence or threaten to put a stop to people's beliefs in them..
The kind of indoctrination the Magisterium had....
it just totally fits into the kind that the Churches do.....less the "holy book"
yes...just without the book....
and in the show...
the Magisterium tries to carry out this plan to kidnap the kids
and an operation to separate them from their "demons" or rather their Souls was also carried out at the same time..
such that the Dust was unable to pollute the kids through the souls....
Nicole Kidman's character explained that once the adults' souls are formed...there wouldn't be any chance to influence them anymore...and they had to start from the young before the young kids are able to have a fixed soul...
they must ensure that the kids are not "polluted"
therefore they try to split the kids from there souls....
because the souls are the "channel" to which the Dust enters to everyone...
I don't really think im putting down Christianity here...but...
yar...dun one think this is true of what christianity does in some way or another....?
and of how the churches act?
Well...to me....it really struck right smack in my face...
yes...mayb prejudiced...
but i dun think anyone can doubt the similarities.....well
i could be wrong too...mayb...
for thinkings are fixed....like the souls....
